I’m sitting in the train again, listening to music… when Spotify throws this awesome track into my playlist. I’m instantly blown away: that rhythm, that groove! I absolutely have to play this—and what better way to do it with than with the quartet?!
So I’m arranging “Encontro” for the quartet. The piece really thrives on its cool groove. To make the percussion sound nice and groovy, we’re trying out a few different things:
- Sometimes with shakers (but where do you put them when you need to switch quickly to play…)
- Maybe someone in the audience would like to shake them? (What if that person doesn’t have a good sense of rhythm…)
- Sometimes with a strumming rhythm and dead notes (that sounds a little different for each of us)
- Sometimes by swiping across the guitar body (that’s pretty quiet)
No matter how we play the percussion, it’s one of my absolute favorite pieces because it spreads so much joy! Check it out!
